Nature Drawing Week 2

In week two, students were introduced to the history and working methods of Silverpoint.  With the invention of the graphite pencil, this drawing medium fell out of favour, but Silverpoint possesses an allure that no pencil can replicate; over time, the initial gray drawing takes on warm brown tones as the silver particles react to the atmosphere and tarnish.

These silver renderings are very subtle; to appreciate their charm requires viewing them in person.  Having said that, the photos below do a wonderful job in showcasing what’s possible.

Another great week everyone!
