If you draw small subjects like insects, it helps to have a magnifying glass that's adjustable and hands free.  Such magnifiers can be purchased at art and craft shops, but can cost over $100.

Luckily, you can modify these commonly available twist ties to do the exact same job.  All you need is a bit of tape and you're all set for observing bugs up close.
