Limited edition prints of this Eastern Kingbird painting are now available. The original watercolour was painted directly from a bird found by the dedicated volunteers of FLAP. I arranged the kingbird into this position and kept it in a semi-frozen state which allowed me to carefully draw and paint over many days.
Only 30 prints have been made with funds raised going to support FLAP Canada. Each sheet measures 8x10 inches and has been printed locally in Toronto. Prints are wrapped in acid free tissue and ship flat in a protective sleeve. Free pickup is available Monday to Friday at the FLAP office located in downtown Toronto.
This watercolour was a personal breakthrough as it was the first time I’ve painted any bird in colour. I feel the most interesting aspect of this painting is the unusual perspective. The view from above allowed me to show a hint of that beautiful red crown, something you almost never see when out birding in the field.
